WE'RE BAAAACK! (From the Beach)
The weather was lovely, accommodations were perfect but the details were like something from a Chevy Chase movie!!!

My husband and daughter thought the whole thing was a disaster but I can't help but laugh at the whole thing. First of all, Elmer (my husband) had brought his Dune Buggy with us (see in back of pickup). Then the horse trailer with Jango was also hooked to the pickup. A modern day Grapes of Wrath trek. We got to Ocean Shores and found that dune buggies are NOT ALLOWED ANYWHERE!! Elmer's mad and ready to lock horns with anyone - State Patrol, Local Police, anyone. But we ended up muscleing it back into the pick up. My horse was a good camper

but he was absolutely terrified of the beach (the surf, driftwood and kites were all booogers after him). I was glad Elmer had gone to the beach with me and the horse, we had to walk him on the ground from the stable to the beach, to and from - through sand up to our ankles - we were completely exhausted. (this was the first day. The second day we trailered him to the beach, still walking him on the ground with a bridle and a stud chain, finally he seemed to calm down somewhat, thank God. I told Elmer to keep the stud chain on him. I got on Jango and he immediately humped his back, started frantically backing up and trying to rear with Elmer hanging on to the stud chain with all his might and I am setting on this bucking. lunging, backing horse and all the while my daughter, Rachel is yelling "jump off Mom, Bail!! Bail!!. I'm desperately trying to kick my feet free of the stirrups and suddenly Jango just froze. It was over. I had Elmer lead me a little way, then I took the reins and Jango was nervous but not unruly. Walked him a little, did a little trotting, and then got off for the day. The people on the beach must have wondered who the hell were those two old people with that mean gray horse - and why was the old woman on the horse and the old man on the ground. I just couldn't quit laughing at the scenario. Then we decided to roast hot dogs on the beach. Got a beautiful fire going, got the hotdogs on the sticks, then a big wind came up and blew sand all over our hotdogs - so we went back to the condo and boiled them. Then Rachel got her VW bus stuck in the sand - but 4 very nice muscular ladies appeared out of the mist and pushed us out. Angels, I think. The next day, Rachel wanted to go back to the beach again, AND AGAIN the VW got stuck and this time Elmer and I had to push her out - and Good Old Dad DID NOT THINK IT WAS FUNNY. (I had to go behind a big piece of driftwood and laugh). Finally, it was time to go home and we were READY TO GO!!. For some reason, Jango was very nervous in the trailer before we left and he was urinating everywhere, it was running out of the trailer, then he got diahrea and it was running down the back doors. We just took off for home in spite of the mess with urine dripping out of the trailer and him stomping around. Got home at 10:00 PM. Ooooh well, that's SHOW BIZ.

Hey Joan, it sounds like a lot of fun to me. I am glad you had a good time. It was too bad that Elmer could not run his dune buggy. We bought a Meadowbrook Cart today and have it home. The next one is my Cross Country Buggy. Maybe next year. Will they let you drive carts on the beach? Probably. Maybe we will go with one of these times and Elmer and Garry can drive while you and I ride. Penny
