A Horse's View Of The World

I find horses so fascinating and they are often smarter than we realize. I have boarded in very large commercial stables, and one can walk down the aisle and it is obvious that all those horses have unique personalities, different expressions on the their faces and, like people, their eyes tell alot. It is with this in mind that my blog will often be from a horses point of view, at least as I see it.

Just returned from a trip I took to the American Eventing Championships. The former horse of Maplefen Farm, Sargent (Koshari Flash) qualified for the Championships and I and a friend went back to watch him go. What a wonderful time we had. Beautiful facility in St. Charles, Illinois. Lamplight Equestrian Center - 52 acres of perfectly groomed stables and arenas and across the street is a 2000 woods preserve that they are allowed to use for Cross Country. What a great galloping course. I met Sarge's owner, Heather for the first time, along with her Mom and Uncle. Heather is an adorable girl - so cute and animated and such a good rider. She was warming up Sarge and her coach was coaching her and I heard her say "But I love Him!!". She does love Sarge - he could not have gone to a better home. My traveling companion asked me if I had any misgivings about selling him - and I was quick to tell her "Certainly Not", I could have never done for Sarge what Heather has. He and Heather's performance was wonderful - unfortunately, he was going too fast for cross county (novice divisions are penalized for going faster than optimum time) and Heather pulled him down to a trot just 2 jumps from the finish - and Sarge took it as a sign that he could stop if he wanted to - so he hesitated at the drop and the judge called it a stop. But it didn't dampen our spirits - he was absolutely beautiful with such a big stride with freight train enthusiasm. I had a perfectly wonderful time!! Now I am inspired, I came home and that little cute stubby quarter horse of mine, Jango, is back in the dressage arena and next week I pull out the jumps. We had a full summer of great trailriding but training time is back.

So glad you are home, I have missed riding with you, but our fall weather seems to be with us. I plan on starting Duchess next month. I will be hauling her to an arena 3 times a week for 30 days and then we will drop down to twice a week, if the roads are ok.
