Washington State is a lovely place to "horse around". It is said that the county that I live in, Snohomish County, has more horses per population than anywhere else in the US. I live in a rural area north of Seattle, situated in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Most of my neighbors and my friends ride, some show. We try, every Wednesday, to get together to ride at a lovely forested site, populated by many deer, squirrels, chipmunks, bear (rarely seen) and cougar (also shy and rarely seen). One can ride for a full day and not take the same trail. There are wide open trails, sandy narrow trails, streams to cross and bridges to cross. It is lovely and is privately owned and opened to all horse people, their dogs and mountain bikers. We trailer once a year to a tiny old railroad town near the summit of the Cascades, named Easton. Here we can ride through mountain meadows, to mountain lakes and there is even a small grass airplane landing strip where we can gallop safely around the perimiter. At the back of my property runs power lines with a wonderful service road we are allowed to use - I can go on a 2 hour hack right out my own back door. I like nothing better than to introduce other riders to these wonderful places.
