A Horse's View Of The World

I find horses so fascinating and they are often smarter than we realize. I have boarded in very large commercial stables, and one can walk down the aisle and it is obvious that all those horses have unique personalities, different expressions on the their faces and, like people, their eyes tell alot. It is with this in mind that my blog will often be from a horses point of view, at least as I see it.

JANGO IS TEEPEE CREEPIN'!!

Jango has escaped twice the last 2 weeks. It's not like I am not feeding him - he is fat, blanketed and warm, comes in to his nice stall everynight - but he's lookin' for better accommodations. Snuck out around a fence line that I had ended at thick brush and blackberry vines. I thought the brush would be a good barrier and I THOUGHT Jango wouldn't venture into that mess. WRONG. He went galloping down the powerline service road, made a right on a private road, made another right on the county road and stopped at a neighbor's lawn for dinner. This happened in the pitch dark, me in the back of the pickup armed with a floodlight, grain and halter. Could not find him - called the Sheriff to see if they had received any calls and sure enough, they had! Horse was caught while eating dinner at their lawn by people who knew nothing about horses and, of course, Jango was all pumped up with the floating trot, tail up in the air, the whole thing. Well, these folks called the people across the street who had horses and they came and got him and put him in their pasture. He was only 2 farms away from home. Too dark and he was too pumped up to take him home, so he spent the night. I took the horse trailer to pick him up in the morning. BAD JANGO.
Then yesterday morning, drinking our coffee, watching the news and we saw a flash of gray go by the house - yup, it was Jango, he had escaped again. He went through a "walk through" next to the main gate!! BAD BOY, JANGO. This time he headed directly for our neighbors to the north who have horses. I was running around in my nightgown and robe with a bucket of grain and a halter, AGAIN. Again, he was in a neighbor's pasture - I caught him, put the halter and a STUD CHAIN on him as he was all "floaty, tail up'n it" again. My husband showed up and he led him home. As we turned him out in his own pasture at home (after I fixed and removed the walk through)I saw him glance at a spot in the pasture next to the arena that has been needing an upgrade. I saw it in his eyes - he would go there next!!! BUGGER HORSE!!! So I fixed every darn thing that would possibly provide him an escape route!! THE FENCES ARE SOO0 HOT THAT WHEN I PUT THE TESTER ON THEM, IT LIGHTS UP THE SKY!!! I am going to board at a dressage barn for the next 3 months for lessons and training. He can be their problem for a while!!
